Marine Captain’s (OUPV) License Preparation
This 64-hour course provides students with the information necessary to take the US Coast Guard examination for licensing as an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV). The OUPV License (commonly referred to as the Six-Pack Captain’s License) allows the holder to carry up to six paying passengers on uninspected vessels up to 100 gross tons (up to about 100 feet long) on Inland, Great Lakes, and/or Near Coastal waters. Licenses are required to legally carry passengers for hire, including for fishing, sightseeing, diving, tour cruises, etc. The examination is administered as a separate class upon the conclusion of this course.

OUPV Checklist

Marine Captain’s OUPV License Examination
This 8 hour class will administer the US Coast Guard’s Marine Captain’s License exam. This exam course is only for students who have successfully completed the 64-hour Marine Captain’s OUPV course.
Cost: $100

Exam retest sessions are offered in 4 hour blocks and are administered as a separate class and scheduled as needed.
Cost: $50


Upgrade License to Master License Preparation
This 24 hour course provides students with the information required to take the US Coast Guard examination for upgrade from an OUPV Captain’s License to a Master’s License. A Master’s License is required to carry more than six paying passengers on inspected vessels up to 100 gross tons. You must have successfully completed CFCC’s Marine Captain OUPV License course and/or have a current Marine Captain OUPV License to register for this course. The examination is administered as a separate class upon the conclusion of this course.
Cost: $75

100 GRT Master Checklist

Upgrade to Master Exam
This 4 hour class will administer the Coast Guard’s Master License exam. It is only for students who have successfully completed the 24-hour Upgrade License to Master course.
Cost: $50


Assistance Towing Endorsement
This 4-hour session is provided for students who have attained, or are in the process of obtaining their US Coast Guard Captain’s or Mate’s license for vessels of 200 gross tons or less. This course serves in lieu of taking an Assistance Towing examination at any US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center.
