CCP Pathway: Plumbing and Pipefitting Apprenticeship (Level 1 and 2)

This pathway will prepare students to become a Journeyman Plumber.

Level I will begin with an introduction to the Plumbing & Pipefitting Profession then move on to cover topics such as safety/health/OSHA Smart Mark, use and care of tools, math, and measurements as it relates to plumbing, interpreting, and planning drawings, soldering and brazing, Oxy-fuel cutting and welding, use of different pipe/fitting/valve materials (plastic, copper, cast-iron, carbon steel), corrugated stainless steel tubing and valves, fixtures and faucets, intro to DWV (drain, waste, vent) systems, intro to water distribution systems, rigging and signaling.

Level II will go over math and related science, reading commercial drawings, hangers/supports/structural penetrations/fire stopping, installing and testing DWV piping, installing roof/floor/area drains, types of valves, installing and testing water supply piping, installing fixtures/valves/faucets, basic electricity, installing water heaters, fuel gas systems, servicing of fixtures/valves/faucets, shielded metal-arc welding.

This four-level/four-year program is taught using the NCCER curriculum and books. Students will earn a NCCER Credential.

This program is a registered apprenticeship program with Apprenticeship NC through the Department of Labor. Upon completion of the four-level/four-year program, apprentices will receive their Apprenticeship NC journeyman card and certificate.

Classes are held at: CFCC North Campus.

THE CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION/WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY (CTE/WCEP)

Tuition-free course hours that lead to technician education certificate, State, or Industry Recognized Credential aligned with a high school career cluster. Students are responsible for the following CFCC fees:

  • Material, parking, access, security, and tech fees

ELIGIBILITY & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a high school junior or senior.
  • Have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 on high school courses or your principal’s approval.
  • If GPA is lower than 2.8, assessment testing is required.

ELIGIBILITY FOR CONTINUED ENROLLMENT IN CCP (CTE/WCEP PATHWAY)

To maintain eligibility for continued enrollment, a student must:

  • Continue to make progress toward high school graduation.
  • Continue to make progress toward successful completion of the Workforce Continuing Education pathway as defined by the pathway syllabus.
  • A student who doesn’t meet these criteria will be subject to the college’s policy for unsatisfactory progress.
