New BioWork Technician Course at CFCC
Wilmington, NC (May 12, 2025) – Cape Fear Community College is proud to announce the launch of a new BioWork Process Technician program. This short-term, industry-recognized training is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in North Carolina’s rapidly expanding biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and chemical manufacturing sectors.
Developed in partnership with the NC Biotechnology Center, the BioWork Certificate program equips students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to launch a career as a process technician. These technicians are responsible for the production of chemical and pharmaceutical products.
The BioWork program is open to individuals seeking to enter or transition into the life sciences industry. The course begins on June 10 and runs through September 23. Participants will meet in person on Tuesdays from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on CFCC’s downtown Wilmington campus. Additional online work will be required.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified by the NC BioNetwork as BioWork Process Technicians.

Individuals who complete the BioWork Process Technician program are prepared for manufacturing, testing, quality assurance, and sales roles within North Carolina’s growing life sciences sector.
Fields include marine biotechnology, clinical research, agricultural biotech, and biomanufacturing. According to the NC BioNetwork, starting salaries range from $45,000 to $54,000.
North Carolina is home to over 840 biotech companies, including Amgen, Johnson & Johnson, Novo Nordisk, Lilly, Quality Chemical Laboratories, Alcami, and Frontier Scientific. These companies support more than 75,000 jobs statewide. Southeastern NC alone is home to 165 biotech companies, offering strong local career opportunities.
