This course includes lecture and exercises that examine policies and procedures, accreditation, industry standards, and best practices that drive an agency’s needs. Students will engage in discussion and learn a step process to developing policies and obtaining buy-in. Time will be spent in groups for hands-on policy development and critique from the instructor and peers. Students are encouraged to bring policies or procedures with which they may need assistance. Students should take away an increased knowledge regarding policy development and be able to employ the steps once they return to their agency. Sample policies will be provided as reference material.

Course Goals:
Narcotic investigations can be the most dangerous type of investigation that an investigator or uniform officer might encounter in the performance of their duties. Students attending this class will gain complete awareness of the drugs facing them today, but they will also acquire the
expertise needed to make effective observations and sound judgments to develop these cases. Several narcotic investigations originate from violators using hotel and motel locations to facilitate their drug operations. Officers will learn how to work with the hotel/motel personnel in their jurisdictions to produce a successful investigation proactively. Officer safety issues will also be emphasized.
