The club will create opportunities for students to build relationships with themselves and a sense of community with one another.

    The Yoga Club will be student-centered and student-driven, with students playing a central role in determining activities, events, discussions, and the direction of the organization. Activities include group yoga sessions, guided meditation, mindfulness practices, educational opportunities and community-building events. Ultimately, the club seeks to create a space where students feel connected while developing practices that can contribute to their physical and social well-being.

    Cape Fear Community College will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony honoring the victims, survivors, and heroic first responders of September 11, 2001. The memorial will pay tribute to those impacted by the attacks at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard American Airlines Flights 11 and 77, as well as United Airlines Flights 93 and 175. The ceremony will feature:

  • Blue Collar Actor Presentation

    Cape Fear Community College will host American Professional Acting Icon Jordan Rhodes as he presents his Blue Collar Actor Presentation in association with the Chair of Fine Arts and the Performing Arts Department, Mr. Philip Singleton.

    This Event is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th at 3 pm in CFCC Union Station 170. This Event is open to all acting students and the general public.

    The program will open with a brief screening of a few of Mr. Rhodes film and television clips from the many series, specials & major films he has worked in during a professional career that spans more than six decades. A number of his films and television shows have even become cult classics like, "The Night Stalker'', and "House of Good & Evil". In addition to the number of TV shows and films he has appeared in, Mr. Rhodes has also performed a recurring role in five TV series, including Streets of San Francisco and Matlock, which was filmed here in Wilmington.

    Following these clips, Mr. Rhodes will discuss his career and journey from working summers on his Uncles sharecropping tobacco farm all the way to an invitation for a cocktail reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by Prince Phillip.
    He'll talk about his early days of studying acting techniques of teaching legends, Lee Strasberg and Sanford Meisner, just to name two. He'll also discuss his early start in television and films in NYC before making the move to Hollywood where he worked with many of the biggest Stars, including Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Gene Hackman, Jodie Foster, Mia Farrow, Robert Wagner, Jill St. John, Sean Penn, Michael Douglas, Charles Bronson, James Garner, Linda Cristal, Viggo Mortensen, Patricia Arquette, Barbara Rush, & Karl Malden, just to mention a few.

    The information and insight shared by Mr. Rhodes should provide a valuable and entertaining afternoon for interested and curious students, friends and family alike.
    A Q&A will follow the Presentation for anyone interested.

  • Indigeneity in India: Talk & Art Workshop

    In this program, Parag Saikia (a PhD Candidate in UNC's Department of Anthropology) will give a brief talk addressing key issues for indigenous groups in contemporary India. How is indigeneity understood? What are some of the challenges and opportunities facing indigenous communities in India today? Then, artist Sampada Kodagali Agarwal will lead a hands-on art workshop teaching techniques from the traditional tribal style of the Warlis. Continue the conversation about indigeneity in India today as you create your own artwork to take home!
