Wilma W. Daniels Gallery and Cameron Art Museum Present Sense of Place

Wilmington, NC (July 22, 2026) — The Wilma W. Daniels Gallery at Cape Fear Community College, in collaboration with Cameron Art Museum (CAM), proudly presents Sense of Place.  Opening August 11, the exhibition celebrates the rich artistic legacy of southeastern North Carolina through a curated selection of works from CAM’s permanent collection. The exhibition is curated by Ben Billingsley, CAM’s Curator of Exhibitions and Collections.

“Presented at the Wilma Daniels Gallery on the campus of Cape Fear Community College, this collaborative satellite exhibition invites visitors to explore the people, places, and perspectives that continue to define the cultural character of the Cape Fear region,” said Billingsley.

Sense of Place highlights Wilmington-area artists whose creativity has shaped the region’s visual identity across generations— spanning historical figures like Elisabeth Chant and Claude Howell to contemporary mainstays associated with ACME Studio and Gallery, including Pam Toll and Dick Roberts. Together, the works trace an enduring relationship between art, landscape, and community. Beyond celebrating the region’s artistic heritage, the exhibition serves as an active bridge for students.

“We are excited to bring this exhibition to the Wilmington community and our CFCC students,” said Skye Dlugy-Hegwer, CFCC Visual Art Studio Technician. “Through this collaboration, students are invited not only to learn about the region’s rich artistic roots, but to see themselves as part of its present and its future.”

The exhibition runs August 11 – October 9. A public reception will be held as part of the Fourth Friday Gallery Nights on August 28 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Wilma W. Daniels Gallery.
