Employee Spotlight: Tammy Daniels
Wilson Center Senior Managing Director Tammy Daniels, a Wilmington native, has been an integral part of the local arts community since early childhood. She took her first dance class at the age of three, sparking a lifelong passion for performance.
Tammy pursued this passion academically, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance from UNC Wilmington. Throughout her college years, she balanced her studies and performances with a job as a student maintenance worker.
Her dedication to the arts extended beyond the stage; she frequently worked backstage at Thalian Hall, managing set pieces and running the fly rail, sometimes performing on stage and handling backstage duties in the same production, which led to some hectic but exhilarating moments.
It was through her deep involvement in the arts that Tammy met her life partner, with whom she has shared the stage numerous times. Together, they have two beautiful children.
With Tammy’s extensive theater background, we sat down with her for a quick Q&A session.
WHAT YEAR DID YOU START WORKING AT CFCC AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE?
I began my CFCC journey in 2019 as a part-time house manager at the Wilson Center. I chose to apply because I was amazed that we had a Broadway touring venue in my hometown and wanted to glimpse behind the curtain at how such a mammoth production goes up in front of an audience in just a few hours.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?
I love interfacing with members of our community and spreading positivity through visual art.
WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING, WHAT DO YOU DO?
Fun Facts: In my spare time, I enjoy reading as many books as I can get my hands on. I am an advocate for the “unloved” animals of the world (namely reptiles and invertebrates) and spread awareness through kindness and education. I am also a self-defense instructor with R.A.D. Systems that provides educational opportunities for women to create a safer future for themselves.
WHO HAD THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR EDUCATION AND/OR CAREER PATH?
My parents. They both knew I had a strong connection to the arts from a young age and they continued to nurture that passion. I also inherited my strong work ethic from both of them, without which, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
WHAT IS SOMETHING NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?
That I’m tall…HA! Just kidding…
I think most people would be surprised to know that I’m actually an introverted extrovert or ambivert. I like to be around people, but I also love to be alone. I love to help others, but have difficulty accepting help for myself and I shy away from the limelight.
