BofA and CFCC Nixon Leaders Center partner to offer financial literacy resources for students
CFCC continues to provide students with strategies to help reach their goals funded by a 2-year BofA grant received in 2023.
Wilmington, NC – The Nixon Leaders Center at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) and Bank of America (BofA) continue to partner to ensure students can boost their financial know-how and address key topics such as budgeting, paying down debt, and saving to help them reach their financial goals.
The Nixon Leaders Center supports the educational and professional aspirations of underrepresented populations of students enrolled in CFCC. In 2023, the Nixon Leaders Center was awarded a Bank of America grant over a two-year period to enhance CFCC’s ability to invest in and support the success of the college’s diverse student population.
“The Nixon Leaders Center is excited to continue our partnership with Bank of America, this time offering a financial literacy class to our students,” said Donterio Perkins, CFCC Diversity Success Coordinator. Equipping our students with financial knowledge provides them with a crucial skill set for their future. We aim to facilitate academic achievements and prepare them for success in any path they follow after their time at Cape Fear Community College.”
Bank of America’s Better Money Habits® is a free online platform of easy-to-understand tools and content in both English and Spanish to help people understand their money, make confident choices, and improve their financial health. Local Better Money Habits champions, like Jennie Jackson, Coastal North Carolina Market Executive for BofA, deliver this financial literacy education in person for nonprofit organizations like CFCC.
“Our partnership with CFCC and the Nixon Leaders Center closely aligns with and supports our company’s commitment to helping advance economic opportunity for the residents of our region,” said Jackson. “Our Better Money Habits program offers a simple way to connect people of every background with relevant resources, tools, and guidance to help them take control of their finances.”
The program provides extensive, personalized support to help individuals and families gain the knowledge they need to make confident financial decisions.
“The Better Money Habits course was a great financial learning experience for me,” said Marcus Miller, a CFCC student. “I learned a lot about credit scores, saving and checking accounts, and budgeting. I am grateful to have had an opportunity to take this course and learn more about how to manage my personal finances.”
