CFCC Announces New Foundation Executive Director, David Howell
Wilmington, NC (March 19, 2025) – Cape Fear Community College proudly announces David Howells’ appointment as the CFCC Foundation’s Executive Director. With nearly two decades of experience in philanthropy and public service, David brings a mission-driven approach and a deep passion for improving lives and creating meaningful, lasting change in the Cape Fear region.
Most recently, Howell served in multiple leadership roles with the American National Red Cross, including Senior Regional Philanthropy Officer, Chief Development Officer, Advanced Fundraiser Training Lead, and National Program Manager in Disaster Fundraising. In addition, he represented the Southeastern U.S. Division of the Red Cross National Foundation Advisory Council, helping shape philanthropic best practices and guiding financial growth strategy across the organization.
A lifelong North Carolina resident and proud Wilmingtonian since 2004, David has maintained a strong connection to the state’s colleges and universities – as an educator, advocate, and champion for student success. His community service includes extensive board participation with regional nonprofits and leadership in volunteer organizations. He currently serves as the President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Cape Fear, supporting nonprofit missions and fostering learning opportunities for fundraising professionals throughout the region.

As Executive Director, David will lead the CFCC Foundation’s efforts to secure private support that enhances the student experience through scholarships, program innovation, faculty development, and campus advancement.
