CFCC designated as 2024 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is proud to announce its designation as a 2024 Center of Excellence (CoE) for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education. CFCC is one of only thirty-two CoEs across the United States. This recognition by the United States Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MARAD) recognizes and promotes support for post-secondary maritime training programs that prepare students for careers in the maritime industry.
This designation, valid until 2029, highlights CFCC’s Marine Technology program, which provides high-quality training and education programs tailored to the needs of the domestic maritime industry. Through hands-on training, industry partnerships, and an innovative curriculum, the Marine Technology program gives the next generation of maritime workers the practical skills and academic background to succeed.
“Our country depends on a highly-skilled marine workforce to strengthen our economy and national security,” said Pete Buttigieg, US Transportation Secretary. “The 32 Centers of Excellence designated promote training opportunities outside traditional four-year degree programs and will bring more Americans into these great maritime careers.”
“Our Center of Excellence designations recognize the high standards of maritime education and training provided by Cape Fear Community College, said Ann Phillips, Maritime Administrator. “These institutions play a critical role in providing domestic mariners with the expertise needed to serve the maritime industry best.”
“I am proud that we’ve been named a 2024 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “This means we’re recognized for doing a top-notch job in preparing students for jobs in the maritime industry. It’s a big deal and proof of the hard work of our faculty and students.”
