CFCC Expands Hospitality Management Program to Meet Growing Tourism Industry Demand

Wilmington, NC (October 26, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College is expanding its Hospitality Management program with new certificates, diplomas, and courses designed to prepare students for careers in southeastern North Carolina’s growing tourism and hospitality industry.

The expansion comes as tourism continues to strengthen the region’s economy. New Hanover County ranks seventh in visitor spending among North Carolina’s 100 counties, while tourism-related employment grew by 450 jobs between 2023 and 2025, reaching 7,250 jobs, according to data from studies commissioned by Visit North Carolina.

To meet workforce needs, CFCC has introduced four new Hospitality Management certificates:

  • Career Development in Hospitality
  • Contemporary Tavern Keeper
  • The Tourism Professional
  • Events Planning Essentials

Each certificate provides specialized training while offering students a pathway toward an Associate in Applied Science degree in Hospitality Management.

“Tourism is a major economic driver in our region, and the demand for skilled hospitality professionals continues to grow,” said Pete Doucet, CFCC Hospitality Management Program Director. “These new offerings give students the flexibility to develop specialized skills, advance their careers, and pursue opportunities right here in our community.”

The program also recently added two diplomas, Food Service Entrepreneur and The Lodging Professional.
