CFCC student named a 2024 New Century Transfer Scholar
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is proud to announce that one of our students, Reece Hawk, has been named a 2024 New Century Transfer Scholar and awarded a $2,250 scholarship. Over 2,200 students from more than 1,300 college campuses nationwide were nominated. Only one New Century Transfer Scholar is selected from each state.
Reece is a dual-enrolled student completing his senior year at New Hanover High School and working toward his Associate in Science and certificate in Business Administration at Cape Fear Community College.
New Century Transfer Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments, leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the classroom. To qualify, students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours, hold a 3.50 or greater cumulative grade point average on all college-level coursework completed in the past five years, and be on track to earn an associate or bachelor’s degree.
“I was surprised to find out I was receiving this award,” said Hawk. “I know how competitive this scholarship is, and all I can say is that I am immensely blessed to have this opportunity. This would not have been possible without the support from my peers at CFCC and the faculty and staff.”
“We congratulate Reece for his achievement and recognition by this prestigious scholarship,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “Scholarship programs like this are integral for creating opportunities for students to succeed and for putting college completion within reach.”
The Coca-Cola Foundation, The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, the American Association of Community Colleges, and Phi Theta Kappa sponsor the scholarship program.
