CFCC to Launch Teacher Preparation Programs this Fall

Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College is pleased to introduce an Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation beginning this fall.

The two degree programs, fully transferable to public and private NC colleges and universities, include the same general education courses required by students of four-year schools.

“It has never been more evident that teachers are unsung heroes and major contributors to our children’s success,” said CFCC Dean of General Education and Sciences Lynn Criswell. “CFCC is excited to offer these degrees which will allow broad exploration of the profession.”

Coursework and projects will incorporate field experience and interactions with public school teachers and students; curriculum planning; creating inclusive environments; and targeted preparation for teacher licensure exams required by the State of North Carolina.

In addition, pathways in both programs are available for dually enrolled high school students to experience teaching as a career and complete more than 60% of the program while in high school.

“We anticipate that these degrees will attract a diverse group of future educators who want the benefits of equivalent coursework and real-world classroom experience without accumulating unnecessary debt,” said Criswell.
