CFCC Women’s Basketball team breaking records
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College’s (CFCC) Women’s Basketball team is rewriting the record books, boasting an unmatched 16-0 beginning to their season. Last night’s 90-41 victory over Brunswick Community College cemented their undefeated run, breaking the Cape Fear women’s basketball record for most wins since the start of the season. The 2022-2023 women’s basketball team held the previous record with a 13-0 start.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Taylor Todd-Williams, who previously served as assistant coach for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons, the team has flourished despite having an all-new roster comprised entirely of freshman and transfer players.
The team has dominated the Region 10 Conference this season, claiming the top spot and garnering national attention. Ranked #16 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II, CFCC’s women’s basketball team demonstrates they’re a team to be taken seriously.
What makes their achievements impressive is their ability to overcome challenges this season. The team has demonstrated resilience and determination even with key players sidelined due to injuries and illnesses. At times, they have had to play with fewer players on the court because of bench shortages.
“As a team, we’ve faced challenges head-on and grown stronger with every game,” said Todd-Williams. “Our success isn’t just about winning; it’s about the work the girls put in every time they step onto the court. I couldn’t be prouder of their determination.”
