PROGRAM INFORMATION

The A.A.S Dental Hygiene Program is a five-semester, full-time program beginning in the fall semester each year. Classes, labs, and clinics are held at the downtown campus. Clinical education is also conducted at external location sites in Brunswick and Pender counties. Community Dental Health rotations are conducted at schools and mobile clinics located in New Hanover County.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE

During the final semester of the dental hygiene program, students are eligible to register for the following certification examinations: National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and ADEX Dental Hygiene Clinical Licensure examination administered by CDCA-WREB-CITA. Upon graduation and successful completion of the two examinations, the dental hygiene graduate is eligible to apply for state licensure from the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. A North Carolina Dental Hygiene license is required to practice dental hygiene in North Carolina.
