Employee Spotlight: Erin Easton

Erin Easton

Workforce Training & Development Director Erin Easton hails from upstate New York where she excelled as a high school athlete, earning a full athletic scholarship to Ohio University for track and field. As a first-generation college student, Erin’s journey in Ohio not only led her to academic success but also to meeting her future husband.

Post-graduation, Erin began her career in education, initially as an elementary school teacher before advancing to the role of director at a learning center. Subsequently, Erin transitioned into higher education and workforce development.

In 2015, Erin relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina, where she continued to make a positive impact on career training and workforce needs. Her dedication and expertise eventually brought her to CFCC.

“Erin’s such a key part of CFCC’s team because she is extremely connected to business and industry in our region,” shared Associate Director of Economic & Workforce Development Erica Talbert. “She uses these connections to provide the most up-to-date education and training to our community and K12 partners.”

WHAT YEAR DID YOU START WORKING AT CFCC AND WHAT BROUGHT YOU HERE?

I started working at CFCC in 2021. I have worked in either education or workforce development for the last 22 years. My role at CFCC as the Workforce Training and Development Director allows me the opportunity to combine my passions for education and workforce development together into one amazing role.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?

I love being a part of making a positive impact in our community. I work with local businesses to understand the skills they need for employees to be successful and create training programs to meet those needs. I also work with our community members to provide them with the training they need to start, change, or upskill for careers. It’s truly the best of both worlds to see the positive economic impact our training programs have on both businesses and our community members.

WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING, WHAT DO YOU DO?

I enjoy outside activities with my two children. We recently traveled to Alaska. It was such fun to take the kids to the Denali National Park. And, of course, cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.

WHO HAD THE GREATEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR EDUCATION AND/OR CAREER PATH?

My mom has had the biggest influence on me. I didn’t realize it growing up, but she provided me with the encouragement and freedom to make my own choices. She provided guidance and support, even when she disagreed with my decisions. My relationship with my mom has always been open and trusting and I only hope to be as great of a mom to my two kids as they grow up.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?

It’s okay to fail, but it’s not okay to not try again. My high school coach told me this after a not-so-stellar day and it has stuck with me and helped me to push through tough situations.

WHAT IS SOMETHING NOT MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?
