From vacationer to college graduate: John Gavin’s path to success as a real estate broker
CFCC alumnus, John Gavin, grew up vacationing on the North Carolina coast. After graduating from high school, he relocated to Wilmington to begin his college journey.
John found choosing CFCC to be a “no-brainer” due to the school’s successful and affordable options as well as its coastal location. Recognizing his desire to obtain a four-year degree, CFCC’s University Transfer program emerged as the ideal pathway for him to achieve his goal.
“I have always been drawn to the coast, and finding a school near the beach with everything I wanted was a huge advantage,” shared John. “I was very excited to call Wilmington my home when I enrolled at CFCC.”
UNIVERSITY TRANSFER
During his time at CFCC, John pursued the University Transfer program and earned his Associate in Arts degree. With his sights set on a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, he found the program prepared him for advancing his education. His aspiration to major in Business Administration was fulfilled through this program, which effectively taught and prepared him for further education.
The knowledgeable and supportive staff and advisors at CFCC played a vital role in ensuring that John selected the appropriate classes and took the necessary steps to succeed at the university level. He highly recommends this program to any student seeking to transfer to a four-year college.
EXPERIENCING THE IMPACT
John had the privilege of learning from exceptional instructors during his time at CFCC, all of whom significantly influenced his success. One class that particularly captivated him was Business Law.
“The Business Law class taught me a lot about everyday business laws and the dos and don’ts of running a business,” John explained. “In the Business Law course, you learn a lot of the basics of a contract. As a real estate broker, I work and read contracts every day.”
LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
Watching his father enjoy a successful career in commercial real estate, John was inspired to pursue the same vocation. After graduation from CFCC, John transferred to the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) where he majored in Business Administration, with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Business Development within the Cameron School of Business.
Immediately following his UNCW graduation, John had the fortune of entering the workforce and joining Cameron Management as a commercial real estate broker. He considers himself extremely fortunate to be part of such a knowledgeable and successful team, and he attributes a significant portion of his career readiness to the preparation he received at CFCC and UNCW.
SUPPORT FOR SUCCESS
John credits CFCC for providing him with the tools and resources necessary for his success as a student. Consequently, he highly recommends the University Transfer program to any student contemplating a transition to a four-year college.
“CFCC’s advisors ask all the right questions and really get to know you and your goals,” concludes John. “The instructors are passionate and want their students to be successful. This had a big impact on my success.”
