Husband and father locks in sustainable career

Christopher OliverAt thirty-nine years old, husband and father Christopher Oliver never thought he’d be a recent graduate of CFCC’s Mechatronics Engineering Technology program. With the majority of his career spent in retail management, he decided it was time to pursue a stable career for him and his family.

Aware of the diverse selection of programs at CFCC, Oliver began exploring the programs available.

After a personal conversation with CFCC Mechatronics/Industrial Systems Technology Program Director Jason Randall, he knew the Mechatronics Engineering Technology program was the right fit for him.

”Mr. Randall opened my eyes to a career full of opportunities that will always be needed,” Oliver shared. “I knew from his passion for mechatronics, that this program was the one for me.”

Practical Hands-On Training

The courses at CFCC equipped Oliver with a practical understanding of machines— how they operate, and how to troubleshoot technical and mechanical issues.

Through CFCC, Oliver gained the confidence, knowledge, and drive to succeed on his new career path.

“The classes haven’t been easy,” said Oliver. “But when you are investing in your future, then nothing will stand in your way.”

Randall, who taught Oliver during his two years at CFCC, admires Oliver’s determination and work ethic.

“Christopher Oliver is an exceptional person, husband, father, and student. Oliver gives so much to his studies, helps fellow students, and is always eager to learn more,” Randall said. “He balanced his college studies, family, and work schedules to finish his degree with honors.”

A Rewarding, Sustainable Career

Hard work and quality training paid off for Oliver. Just before his graduation in December 2021, he attended the Manufacturing Job Expo at CFCC where he many local employers.

“The job fair brought awareness about how valuable I was and how hard I worked to earn an opportunity with a fantastic company,” Oliver said. “I was blessed to have had the opportunity to speak with many of the employers. It amazed me how many companies are in the area.”

Alcami Corporation, a US contract development, testing, and manufacturing organization for pharma and biotech companies impressed Oliver in particular. So, he submitted his resume to the company. Oliver locked in a job as a full-time Maintenance Technician at Alcami Corporation.

“The future is looking bright for the Oliver Family, because I made the perfect choice to better our lives with a degree in Mechatronics.”
