Private Pilot Written Prep
Prerequisites: None
This course will provide a student with preparation to take the FAA Private Pilot Written exam. Students will receive instruction in general airplane knowledge, meteorology for aviation, FAA regulations, navigation/flight planning, aviation physiology and additional topics. This course prepares individuals for the FAA Private Pilot Written exam by providing review of subject areas required and practice testing in person and online.
Note: A passed private pilot written exam, also called a knowledge test, expires 24 calendar months after the month it was taken, meaning you must complete your practical test within that timeframe or retake the written exam.
Course Technical & Physical Requirements
- Students entering this program must be able to comprehend and apply aviation concepts, including navigation, weather, regulations, and aircraft systems.
- They should have strong reading and comprehension skills to interpret FAA materials and charts.
- Students must demonstrate the ability to think critically, make decisions, and solve problems in simulated flight scenarios.
- Adequate vision is required for reading instruments and charts, and strong communication skills are necessary for understanding aviation terminology.
- Students must be able to focus for extended periods and adhere to safety and regulatory standards.
Aviation Fundamentals (Hyflex)
Prerequisites: None
This course is designed to introduce students to the development of military and civil aviation from the beginning of humans taking flight through today with the latest technologies and space exploration. The course will include; historical milestones in aviation, aircraft engineering advancements, aeronautical theory, basic aerodynamics, and career exploration.
Flight Theory & Application
Prerequisites: Private Pilot
This course is an opportunity for students embarking on their flight training journey to gain in depth. knowledge of airplanes & systems, aerodynamics, flight safety, airports, navigation, airspace, radio communications, air traffic control services, and aviation regulations. This course will include special emphasis on safety with practice sessions provided on campus in the flight simulator lab. This course will provide the foundation of knowledge for students preparing to begin their aviation journey or already in flight training.
Some Career Pilot courses are offered via hyflex making it more accessible.
How does hyflex work?
Your instructor is on campus teaching during the regularly scheduled class time. You can choose to attend class in person or log into the online meeting to attend class virtually. HyFlex offerings change each semester based on availability.
