Heavy Equipment Operator
This new 300 hour course in partnership with CAT® , Honeycutt Construction Services , NCDOT , Evergreen Clearing, Smith-Talbert Construction , Sound Heavy Machinery , TA Loving , Thomson, Corder, and Company , Conti®Civil , and Cape Fear Public Utility Authority prepares students for entry level jobs in heavy equipment construction projects like mining and road construction. Students will learn to:
- Operate equipment safely including mini excavators, excavators, bulldozers, and articulated dump trucks
- Employee Safety practices and Confined Space Training
- Interpret civil drawings
- Use excavation math
- Interpret soils and grades
- Provide basic maintenance
- Meet industry leaders and experts

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:00am-4:30pm

Requirements:
- 18 or older
- 5 Panel Drug Screen
- Work boots
- Work gloves
- Students should be prepared for weather conditions that may require rain jacket, hood, etc.
What to expect:
- Course will be held at CFCC’s North Campus and at a construction site in Rocky Point
- Much of class will be outdoors in dusty and muddy conditions
Program Cost
- $1,157 registration fee (includes Forklift Training, OSHA 10, Confined Space, Work Zone Flagger, National OSHA Skid Steer Certification, Unlimited NCCER Testing Materials)
- $407.40 book fee
- $40 rapid drug screen

- Students will be operating heavy equipment in a construction environment, in extreme cold and heat.
- They need to follow safety protocols, beaware of potential safety hazards, other machinery, interpret soils and grades, lift heavy items.
- Students will be exposed to fuel and other chemicals necessary for machine operation.
- The environment is loud and dirty.
