Natural Hair Care Specialist
The course is designed to provide instruction and clinical practice in Natural Hair Care. The course content includes anatomy, hair & scalp disorders; theory and salesmanship as it relates to Natural Hair Care; Practice in Natural hair care. ‐ A service that results in tension on hair strands or roots by twisting, wrapping, extending, or locking hair by hand or mechanical device. For purposes of this definition, the phrase “natural hair care” shall include the use of artificial or natural hair.
Students enrolled only in the Natural Hair Care program shall only perform services directly relating to the prescribed course in Natural Hair Care.
Please note, this is a comprehensive course to provide training for those interested in becoming registered Natural hair care specialists only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.
Upon successfully completing this course, students will obtain a temporary license allowing them to work in a salon, spa, shop, etc… Before the license expires, students must sit for and successfully pass a state board examination at the Board of Cosmetic Arts in Raleigh.
While students are not guaranteed job placement at the end of this program, students may gain exposure to local salons throughout the program with the strong potential of obtaining future employment. Previous students have found a high success rate in finding employment and a few currently own and operate their own salon.
Class Location and Schedule

Registration: $630 per student includes:

Bundle: 1st Edition Milady Standard Natural Hair Care and Braiding and Workbook for Milady Natural Hair Care and Braiding

Other Supplies
- Uniform: $60 (Cherokee V-neck navy blue scrubs available at North Campus bookstore and anywhere scrubs are sold)
- Black Tennis Shoes (solid black without any markings)
- CFCC Student ID Card (students can have an ID card made at the Wilmington Campus or North Campus between 8 am – 5 pm, M – F)

These programs require that students upload specific ID documents through a secure portal maintained by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners.
