Simple Things

Christina Whaley is a spouse of an Army veteran (Rick Whaley) and mother of eight children. She currently resides in Leland, NC, and is pursuing an Associate in Arts at Cape Fear Community College. She works as a veteran mentor at the Bob Philpot Veterans’ Center and volunteers her time with the Student Veterans Organization.

A screen print made of her pig, Piggie Smallz (or Rooty) and the flowers, were made for her screen printing class. Both pictures were hand shaved from linoleum paper and rolled with ink to make the imprint of Piggie Smallz and Simple Things. The picture of Piggie was traced from a photo taken by Christina as Piggie Smallz rested his head on a bed. He is a sweet and affectionate animal that brings the family joy, and he loves to root in anything he can find.
