CFCC and UNCW establish transfer agreement for oceanography

Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) has partnered with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to create a transfer opportunity for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Oceanography.

Students who have successfully completed an Associate in Applied Science degree in Marine Technology and meet admission requirements of UNC Wilmington’s Bachelor of Science program will be admitted. This means students have a straightforward pathway to completing a bachelor’s degree.

“I am thrilled to see this articulation agreement between CFCC and UNCW come to fruition,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “This partnership provides a seamless pathway for students to pursue their academic and career goals in this exciting and ever-evolving field while also continuing to foster collaboration and innovation between our institutions.”

This partnership came to life through the hard work of two faculty members, Jason Rogers, CFCC Marine Technology Department Chair, and Dr. Philip Bresnahan, UNCW Assistant Professor of Oceanography.

“Before this partnership, a clear pathway for graduates of the CFCC Marine Technology program did not exist,” said UNCW Chancellor Dr. Aswani K. Volety. “UNCW is pleased to offer this opportunity for CFCC graduates to seek a four-year degree and broaden their career opportunities.”

The ocean is vital to the economy of our coastal community, providing resources like food and ample job opportunities. This new articulation agreement ensures our students receive the best education and preparation possible while contributing to oceanographic research and exploration growth and advancement.
