CFCC graduates record number of student athletes
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is excited to announce the largest graduating class of student-athletes in program history. Thirty-three student-athletes walked across the stage on May 12, representing an 89% graduation rate.
“CFCC is proud to celebrate our largest graduating class of student-athletes,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “These individuals have excelled academically and demonstrated the commitment, determination, and perseverance required to succeed in their respective sports. We are confident they will carry these valuable traits as they progress in their educational journey, careers, and personal lives.”
During the annual Athletics Banquet in April, Sea Devils Athletics recognized all student-athletes who excelled in the classroom during the 22-23 school year. Over half of all student-athletes earned academic honors: twenty-one with a GPA of 3.0 – 3.49, twelve with a GPA of 3.5 – 3.79, and nineteen who earned a GPA of 3.8 – 4.0.
“There are no words to describe how proud I am of our student-athletes this year,” says Ryan Mantlo, CFCC Director of Athletics. “This special class has left a lasting legacy both on the playing field and in the classroom. The bar has been set high for future Sea Devils.”
This past season was record-breaking for the Sea Devils on the courts and fields. Cape Fear women’s volleyball and soccer teams earned their spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships for the second consecutive year. The men’s soccer team showcased their most successful season since 2008, finishing runner-up n the Region 10 Conference Tournament. Women’s basketball set a new record for games won in a row with 13 straight victories. Lastly, men’s basketball capped off the success with the program’s 7th trip to the NJCAA National Championships. This marked the 3rd program this year to win their region/district championship and earn a bid to the NJCAA championships.
