CFCC student services participates in mental health first aid training
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College’s (CFCC) Student Services Division proudly announces that its staff has completed the comprehensive Mental Health First Aid training. This initiative is part of CFCC’s ongoing commitment to its student population’s well-being and mental health.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 5 adults and 17 percent of youth (ages 6-17) in the United States experience mental illness. Recognizing the need for trained professionals to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to address mental health concerns quickly and effectively, CFCC proactively provided Student Services staff with this training.
Mental Health First Aid training teaches individuals how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The training also provides the skills to reach out and offer initial help and support to someone developing a mental health issue or experiencing a crisis.
“By empowering our Student Services Division with Mental Health First Aid Training, we are creating a more compassionate and inclusive campus environment,” said Sabrina Terry, Vice President of Student Services. “CFCC recognizes that students may face stressors and challenges during their academic journey, and it is vital to have trained professionals who can offer immediate assistance and guidance.”
