CFCC introduces new aviation maintenance technician program

Aviation Maintenance Technician Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is excited to announce the launch of the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program, a foundational program designed to equip students with the skills to begin a rewarding career in the aviation industry. The demand for skilled technicians has never been higher, as significant growth is forecasted. According to Boeing’s 2023 Pilot and Technician Outlook, the aviation industry will require 690,000 new mechanics over the next 20 years. In North Carolina, aviation technician jobs are expected to grow by 16% over the next decade.

This program starts with a two-part series, providing an excellent introduction to the essential skills and knowledge required to become an aviation mechanic. The first course, Aviation Maintenance – General I, will run from January 27 to June 16, 2025, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. This course introduces students to the basic principles of aviation maintenance and explains the tasks that technicians perform on the job. Upon completion, students will understand fundamental aviation maintenance concepts and regulations and will be able to perform tasks using the proper tools and equipment.

Instructor Christopher Sperry has over 20 years of experience in military aviation. He brings extensive hands-on expertise in maintenance procedures, systems troubleshooting, and operational safety protocols. His in-depth knowledge of aircraft maintenance ensures effective training and skill development for aspiring aviation technicians.
