CFCC to Offer New NC-Certified Community Health Worker Course

Wilmington, NC (December 8, 2025) – Cape Fear Community College is now offering a North Carolina Community Health Worker course designed to prepare individuals for certification as a Community Health Workers.
The course covers the nine core competencies essential to the role, including communication, capacity building, service coordination, interpersonal skills, advocacy, outreach, and professional conduct. It will address critical health and social issues such as chronic disease (i.e. diabetes, asthma, cancer), safety, emergency preparedness, social isolation, and adverse childhood experiences. Through the training, students will also learn how to connect clients to state and community resources such as NCCARE360. Upon successful completion, participants will be eligible to be a North Carolina Certified Community Health Worker.
The course costs $230 and includes 106 total hours of instruction, 96 hours of classroom learning and 10 hours of hands-on experience. Classes will begin Tuesday, January 6, 2026, and meet on the downtown campus every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with an additional 3 hours of coursework completed each week online. To enroll, students must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma or GED, provide a valid photo ID, and be a North Carolina resident.
