CFCC English Department to Host Alumna and Author S.C. Porter for Reading and Discussion

Wilmington, NC (February 11, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College will welcome CFCC alumnus S.C. Porter, author, poet, and small-business owner, for An Evening with S.C. Porter on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Union Station Auditorium (U170) on the Downtown Campus. The free event is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Porter, who first attended CFCC before transferring to UNCW, has built a remarkable creative career rooted in her local community. After years of working in mental health and raising her family, she began selling books from her one-bedroom apartment, which eventually grew into Porter Co. Book Shoppe in Topsail Beach. From those grassroots beginnings, she published five books spanning poetry and fiction, from Simple Happy to Rules for Dating a Bookshop Owner, and will release her sixth book this month, How to Write a Murder.
The event, hosted by CFCC’s English Department, will feature a reading from Porter’s work followed by a discussion and audience Q&A.
“Bringing S.C. back to campus gives our students a chance to see what’s possible when creative passion meets determination,” said Cheryl Saba, CFCC English Instructor. “Her story, from CFCC student to successful author and small business owner, will inspire our campus community.”
