CFCC launches new Geomatics program to meet growing demand for surveyors
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is launching a new Geomatics program to address the region’s increasing need for skilled surveyors. The program will provide students with the education and training required to pursue a career as a surveyor.
As our region continues to experience significant growth and development, the demand for qualified surveyors has reached new heights. CFCC’s Geomatics program directly responds to this demand, offering courses in various formats, including online, hybrid, and in-person, to accommodate all students. The program will equip students with the knowledge and skills to support local development projects.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of surveyors is projected to grow by more than 3% in the next decade, with demand driven by construction and infrastructure projects. The average annual salary for surveyors is $65,590, reflecting the strong earning potential in this field.
Surveyors are crucial in planning and executing construction projects, making them indispensable in areas experiencing rapid development.
“With the rapid growth our community is experiencing, there is an increasing demand for professionals who can navigate and manage the complexities of land, infrastructures, and environmental data,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “Our new geomatics program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet this demand. By offering this program, we are expanding educational opportunities and supporting our region’s economic development by preparing a skilled workforce.”
Cape Fear Community College’s Geomatics program is now accepting students for courses beginning September 16. For more information on the program, visit cfcc.edu/geomatics/ .
