CFCC to Launch Advertising and Graphic Design Program this Fall

WILMINGTON, NC — Cape Fear Community College is pleased to introduce an Associate in Applied Science in Advertising and Graphic Design program beginning this fall.

CFCC’s Advertising and Graphic Design curriculum will emphasize the principles and practices of design, advertising, illustration, and digital and multimedia preparation of printed and electronic promotional materials that will prepare students for employment in the growing field or continued study.

“Advertising and graphic design are critical to the success of our growing business communities both locally and globally,” said CFCC Dean of Arts and Humanities Brandon Guthrie. “The visual language has never been more important as companies rely on digital marketing and online communications to reach their target audiences effectively. We anticipate this degree program will attract a diverse group of future designers who will bring their unique perspectives to the field to expand their career opportunities or kick-start their educational pursuits.”

CFCC plans to collaborate with UNCW to develop a local articulation agreement so that CFCC’s Advertising and Graphic Design graduates can transfer credits to UNCW’s Digital Arts program.

In addition, CFCC intends to offer a dual-enrollment pathway for New Hanover and Pender County high school students interested in the field.

Upon completing the program, graduates should qualify for employment opportunities with graphic design studios, advertising agencies, printing companies, department stores, and a wide variety of manufacturing industries, newspapers, and businesses with in-house graphics operations.

“There’s a surge in internet activity as more people move online to stay connected during the pandemic,” said CFCC President Jim Morton. “Companies see this as an opportunity to increase their digital marketing efforts. As a result, advertisers and graphic designers are in great demand. We are very excited about the opportunities this degree program will bring to new students and working professionals in New Hanover and Pender County.”
