Biography
Summer Corbin has demonstrated the heart of occupational therapy her whole life. As a young child, she would visit her great grandmother in an assisted living facility where she loved singing, playing games, and making crafts with her great grandmother alongside the other residents of the facility. Summer has always found great joy in helping others, especially older adults.
Summer graduated with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2005. Summer was also a division one athlete as an outfielder for the UNCW softball team where she learned the importance of balancing academics, athletics, and working part-time to pay for college. Despite her busy schedule, Summer excelled academically as she was awarded the Exercise Science Student of the Year award for 2005. This foundational love of wellness, exercise, and human physiology inspired her to immediately continue her education within the OTA program at Cape Fear Community College where she graduated in 2007.
Summer has enjoyed working in post-acute and skilled nursing rehabilitation since 2007 where she had the pleasure of working with a wide range of diagnoses and individuals ranging in age from 18 to 107 years old. Summer is a huge advocate for evidence-based practice and ensuring all treatment methods are holistic and client-centered to each individual. She obtained an advanced clinician status specializing in geriatric rehabilitation through a variety of continuing education courses, research projects, presentations, and case studies throughout her career. Summer loves to educate others about occupational therapy as she shares her passion and energy for inspiring everyone to lead the most healthy, joy-filled life possible. In Summer’s free time, she loves to stay active and spend time exploring the outdoors with her family.
