Biography

Coming from an institution that emphasizes the relationship between sociology and criminology, I am trained in both, and my fields of interest reflect this. While I have primarily researched the school-to-prison pipeline, my studies have extended to a variety of topics, including restorative justice, school climate, police officers, correctional staff, intimate partner violence, and the impact of social media on sexual abuse disclosures. Likewise, I approach every topic with an intersectional approach.

Sociology does not end in the classroom. Its reach goes beyond the walls and halls of lectures. I care deeply about aiding students in the creation of their sociological imaginations, and I apply real-world and community examples to bring sociology and its theories into perspective.

What CFCC Students Have to Say

  • She is great at teaching! I understand the material when she teaches it. She has an amazing personality and is one of the best professors that I have had.
  • Really cares about her students.
  • Professor Brown’s enthusiasm made a fun, comfortable, and intriguing class environment. I have learned so much thanks to Professor Brown’s class.
  • She creates a very positive environment in her classroom that makes me excited to attend her class! She is very approachable and friendly and always makes sure to get our input during class, whether that be on assignments or her teaching style. Overall, she is one of the best professors I’ve ever had!
  • What makes this instructor so great, is that she is always looking for new ways to have her class interact and engage with the materials that she is teaching. She really makes an effort to show her students that she cares about them!
  • I think sometimes our society gets too caught up in being perfect and the push to be better than the next person. This professor not only taught the material in a way I learned more about life and how to treat others but more about myself and ways I can change for the better of society as a whole. I made good grades but what I took away from the class was so much more than theories and terms but how to be a better human being.
  • Her teaching has such a creative function for displaying the interactive symbols for the conflicts society has faced.
