Employee Spotlight: Marcela Saucedo Gangoiti
Marcela Saucedo Gangoiti’s journey with CFCC’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program is a full-circle story. Before becoming an ESL Assessment Retention Specialist, she was an ESL student herself.
“I’ve been working in ESL for five years! But about eight years ago, I was in the program as a student,” she shared. “I liked the program, the instructors, and, of course, Dr. Cindy Fischer. And I know from experience it works!”
Originally from Mexico, Marcela studied interior design and earned a diploma in Madrid. However, her personal experiences as an immigrant led her down a different path.
“I wanted to work and help the non-English-speaking population,” she said. “I understand the situation of people who don’t speak English and their challenges in finding opportunities.”
That passion eventually brought her back to CFCC in a professional role. “After finishing my ESL classes, I got a different job, but I always wanted to work in this field,” she explained. “One day, someone told me about the ESL retention specialist position, and I got it.”
Marcela plays a vital role in supporting ESL students by helping them navigate their education and build confidence in their English skills.
“The students are the best part of my job,” she said. “It’s amazing to see them little by little understand English and American life. I also really enjoy the registration and orientation process.”
Outside of work, Marcela enjoys traveling and hiking. She also loves languages and is currently trying to learn Italian and French, though she admits, “It’s hard!” She also practices yoga to stay balanced.
Marcela’s own experience in the program makes her an incredible resource for CFCC’s ESL students. We’re grateful to have her on our team to guide and encourage students as they work toward their goals!
