FFGA Optional Insurance
Cape Fear Community College offers all eligible employees a comprehensive benefits program. The products described in this booklet are optional, employee-paid benefits, and eligible employees have the opportunity to select the programs in which they wish to participate.
In order to enroll, you must be within 30 calendar days of your hire date or must enroll during the open enrollment period, held in October of each year with a January 1 effective date.
Employees can purchase additional policies through FFGA Benefits, an insurance broker that handles a comprehensive package of benefits unique to Cape Fear Community College. Visit the FFGA website to view all of the current optional benefits available including Dental, Vision, FSA, Group Term Life and Ancillary Benefits.
To make changes to your optional benefits outside of Open Enrollment, employees must do so within 30 calendar days of a qualifying life event as established by the IRS. Examples of qualifying events include birth, marriage, divorce, loss or gain of other coverage and death.

Dental Insurance — Delta Dental

- ID cards will be mailed to you upon enrollment. Dependents will not receive an ID card.

Vision Insurance — Community Eye Care

- Find a vision provider
- You will be sent 2 ID cards in the subscriber’s name when you join Community Eye Care, but you don’t have to have it when you visit your eye doctor. If you lose your card or need extras for your family, you can print a replacement on Member FAQ’s .
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) – FFGA
Medical FSA
Eligible full-time employees may allocate up to $3,300 in 2025 on a pre-tax basis from their paychecks and place it into a medical flexible spending account. This plan will issue a debit card for access to your funds. These funds may be used to pay for IRS eligible health, dental and vision expenses, and some limited over-the-counter items. A full list, including plan details and a link to the FSA Store, is located in the Benefits Booklet .
You may be required to substantiate your expenses, so it is important to save all detailed receipts for your purchases. Visit the Ameriflex website to file claims, upload receipts, view your account balance, find eligible items, and view helpful resources.
Dependent Care FSA
Eligible full-time employees may allocate up to $2,500 for married filing separately and up to $5,000 for single or married filing jointly in 2024 on a pre-tax basis from their paychecks and place it into a dependent day care flexible spending account. These funds may be used on eligible dependent care expenses, however, no debit card is provided for this program. Please refer to the Benefit Booklet for more details.
Group Term Life – Dearborn Group Term Life
New hires during their new hire enrollment period (within 30 days of hire date) may sign up for Group Term Life by contacting the Dearborn Group at 800-721-7987 .
