Pierce Group

Cape Fear Community College offers all eligible employees a comprehensive benefits program. The products described in this booklet are optional, employee-paid benefits, and eligible employees have the opportunity to select the programs in which they wish to participate.

In order to enroll, you must be within 30 calendar days of your hire date or must enroll during the open enrollment period, held in October of each year with a January 1 effective date.

Employees can purchase additional policies through Pierce Group Benefits, an insurance broker that handles a comprehensive package of benefits unique to Cape Fear Community College. The booklet lists all of the current optional benefits available including Dental, Vision, FSA, Group Term Life and Ancillary Benefits.

To make changes to your optional benefits outside of Open Enrollment, employees must do so within 30 calendar days of a qualifying life event as established by the IRS. Examples of qualifying events include birth, marriage, divorce, loss or gain of other coverage and death.

Dental Insurance — Sun Life

  • You will be sent 2 ID cards in the subscriber’s name when you join EyeMed, but you don’t have to have it when you visit your eye doctor. If you lose your card or need extras for your family, you can print a replacement on Member Web . Or to pull up a digital version anytime, anywhere, download the EyeMed Members App through the App Store or Google Play.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) – Ameriflex

Medical FSA
Eligible full-time employees may allocate up to $3,050 in 2023 on a pre-tax basis from their paychecks and place it into a medical flexible spending account. This plan will issue a debit card for access to your funds. These funds may be used to pay for IRS eligible health, dental and vision expenses, and some limited over-the-counter items. A full list, including plan details and a link to the FSA Store, is located in the Benefits Booklet .

You may be required to substantiate your expenses, so it is important to save all detailed receipts for your purchases. Visit the Ameriflex website to file claims, upload receipts, view your account balance, find eligible items, and view helpful resources.

Dependent Care FSA
Eligible full-time employees may allocate up to $2,500 for married filing separately and up to $5,000 for single or married filing jointly in 2023 on a pre-tax basis from their paychecks and place it into a dependent day care flexible spending account. These funds may be used on eligible dependent care expenses, however, no debit card is provided for this program. Please refer to the Benefit Booklet  for more details.

Group Term Life – Colonial Life

New hires during their new hire enrollment period (within 30 days of hire date) may sign up for Group Term Life by contacting the Pierce Group Benefits Service Center at 1-888-662-7500 . The Guaranteed Issue amount of coverage is only available during the New Hire special enrollment period. This means you don’t have to fill out a health questionnaire to elect these coverage levels. If you enroll in Group Term Life during open enrollment after your new hire eligibility period, your application is subject to Evidence of Insurability and may not be approved.

Ancillary Benefits — Colonial Life
Disability, Accident, Cancer, Medical Bridge, Critical Care, Term Life, and Whole Life supplemental insurance plans, are available through Colonial Life. 

SunLife Voluntary Long-Term Disability
Telemedicine – Call-A-Doctor
Provides 24/7 access to a physician from home via phone or video access to doctors who can diagnose common medical conditions, provide treatment plans, and provide prescriptions when needed.
