All About Accessibility

Get an overview of accessibility services available to CFCC students. Topics include: how the ADA defines disability; laws that govern accessibility services at post-secondary institutions; reasonable accommodations and how they are implemented at CFCC; and the rebranding of CFCC’s Student Accessibility Services. Get tips and resources for working with students with disabilities and a quick reference guide on handling student accommodations requests.

Education Beyond Access

Engaging Students of Color: Institutions across the country have recently created eorts to make underrepresented populations feel as though they are, and always have been, a welcomed piece to their inclusive community of students. However, what if being welcomed wasn’t enough? Learn these students’ experiences, analyze how to be more inclusive and considerate of their racial identity, and get tools to change how they experience CFCC.

Empowering Students through Consistent, Authentic and Equitable Communication

Presenter: Dr. John Hrebik
A Building – Room 308

Discover ways to promote authentic and consistent communication with students in the classroom and online. Learn practical strategies for nurturing equitable teacher-student relationships through written response and interactivity. We’ll examine the importance of crafting written communication (responses to student writing, emails, Bb announcements, etc.) that is consistent with our physical and virtual voices in the classroom.

Supporting Mental Health in College Students

Presenters: Rodney Young, Mia Karhu, Mackenzie Reaves, Beth Smedley, and Emily Varnell

While college can be exciting, it can also be stressful for students’ mental health. Our trained counseling staff will give you the tools to identify and respond to some common student situations. Get simple steps from Mental Health First Aid to equip in de-escalating potential confrontations and get resources for making appropriate referrals to support student mental health.
