CCP PATHWAY: Aviation Ground School: Pilot
The Aviation Ground School: Pilot offers a clear pathway to kickstart your journey in the aviation industry. The aviation industry is experiencing unprecedented growth. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of airline and commercial pilots is expected to soar to an estimated 16,800 job openings each year. With our flexible and affordable Career Pilot Program courses, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to take your first steps on your journey to a dynamic and rewarding career.
The pathway is designed to provide the necessary skills to prepare for the FAA Private Pilot written knowledge test.
Program Location
Classes are held at our North Campus, Ashley High School, and Laney High School. Delivery mode is subject to change.
AVIATION GROUND SCHOOL: PILOT PATHWAY COURSES:
Aviation Fundamentals:
This course is designed to introduce students to the development of military and civil aviation from the beginning of humans taking flight through today with the latest technologies and space exploration. The course will include; historical milestones in aviation, aircraft engineering advancements, aeronautical theory, basic aerodynamics, and career exploration.
Aviation Weather:
The course is designed to cover all areas of aviation meteorology including; the evolution of aviation weather theory, the earth’s atmosphere, meteorological conditions and forecasting as it relates to aircraft operation, performance and flight planning.
Air Navigation:
This course is designed to cover the basic elements of navigation including; Airspace, FAA publications and regulations, Use of charts and equipment for navigational Flight planning, Radio Navigation, GPS technologies and systems.
Private Pilot Ground School:
Students will be provided with a broad spectrum of understanding of the aviation field from the civil and commercial perspective and the course will cover all areas required to meet the foundation of knowledge requirements to prepare for the FAA written knowledge test. Special emphasis will be placed on all subject areas and practice tests will be conducted in order to establish competency to pass each subject area.
THE CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION/WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PATHWAY (CTE/WCEP)
Tuition free course hours that lead to technician education certificate, State, or Industry Recognized Credential aligned with a high school career cluster. Students are responsible for the following CFCC fees in each course:
- Parking & Security- $5.00.
- Technology Fee – $5.00.
- Materials Fee – $20.00.
- Textbook(s) – based on course.
ELIGIBILITY & ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Be a high school junior or senior.
- Have a weighted GPA of 2.8 on high school courses or your principal’s approval.
- If GPA is lower than 2.8, assessment testing is required.

- Complete the CTE WCEP Online Application .
- Read Approval Form DocuSign Instructions before proceeding to next step.
- Complete the Career Technical Approval Form .

REGISTRATION DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
Once you have emailed eeaston@cfcc.edu to express intent to enroll in the Aviation Ground School pathway, you will receive an email with additional registration instructions. Below outlines the required documentation required to complete your registration:
- CTE WCEP Acceptance Email.
- Copy of current High School Transcript must be provided.
- Other documentation may be required.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONTINUED ENROLLMENT IN CCP (CTE/WCEP PATHWAY)
To maintain eligibility for continued enrollment, a student must:
- Continue to make progress toward high school graduation.
- Continue to make progress toward successful completion of the Workforce.
- Continuing Education pathway as defined by the pathway syllabus.
- A student who doesn’t meet these criteria will be subject to the college’s policy for unsatisfactory progress.
