Dog Grooming

The Cape Fear Community College Dog Grooming program is designed to teach students introductory aspects of pet grooming. Introduction to Dog Grooming teaches students basic grooming techniques that will be useful in student’s dog grooming careers and/or with their own dog. This course is an entry-level course preparing students for further training and/or to begin grooming their own dog(s).

Class will meet in a classroom setting where students will learn the foundational information pertaining to dog grooming. On the last day of class, students will meet at the Best Day Ever Dog Boutique for a hands-on grooming lab lead by our instructor.

The main objectives students will learn are different breeds of dogs and their coats, the basics of dog anatomy, basic dog psychology, pet first aid, and how to use common tools for pet grooming. The main objective of the grooming lab is to show students examples of concepts learned in the classroom and to obtain hands-on skills. During the Grooming lab, students will have hands-on learning experience on proper bathing techniques, brushing, and observe a demonstration of very basic trimming.
