OBD Emission Inspection
This course focuses on the North Carolina On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Inspector-Mechanic (I/M) test procedure as well as existing and updated requirements of the I/M to successfully perform the OBD I/M inspection.
This course is designed to prepare auto technicians and service personnel as OBD emission inspectors for motor vehicles. Course topics include regulations and test inspection procedures required by the NC DMV – Enforcement Section – OBD emission inspectors. Upon completion, a student should understand the rules, regulations, and procedures for OBD emission inspections, be able to inspect a vehicle properly and be prepared to sit for the state certification exam.

To be successful in this course, students must be able to:
- The course requires students have prior knowledge of auto mechanics and safety standards.
- Students will be standing for long periods of time.
- Hands on training with computerized scan tools is necessary.
- A hands on and written exam are required for certification.
