Mother and Daughter duo celebrate simultaneous graduations from CFCC
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is excited to celebrate a unique milestone as local residents Jami Flowers and her daughter, Cadence Brewer, graduate together from two different programs. Jami and Cadence, current residents of Atkinson, are an inspiring example of dedication and perseverance.
Jami is earning her diploma in Pharmacy Technology. She began the program in 2003, but life and young children required her to pause her education. When the opportunity to return to the program arose, she eagerly seized it to pursue becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Following graduation, Jami hopes to secure a position in an in-patient facility where she can fulfill her passion for assisting pharmacists in providing patient care.
“My mom set aside her education and became a stay-at-home mom so that she could be there for us [her children] and all our crazy friends,” said Cadence. “I am so proud she is finally pursuing her dreams alongside me.”
Cadence is earning her esthetics diploma. After graduating from Pender High School six months early, Cadence was drawn to her program due to her deep interest in the connection between exterior appearance and mental well-being. Upon completing her state certification, she aspires to work at a salon where she can immerse herself in learning about the field. Her ultimate goal is to start her own business, investing in and enhancing the lives of her clients.
“Growing up was tough for me,” said Cadence. “I didn’t feel like I had the choice or opportunity to pursue higher education with hands-on, one-on-one learning. My instructors at Cape Fear brought diverse skill sets and experiences. They’ve taught me discipline, self-respect, respect for others, and the importance of the craft of skincare.”
Jami and Cadence will graduate on Friday, August 2, at 9:00 a.m. To learn more about Cape Fear Community College’s programs, visit cfcc.edu.
