Guidelines for Submissions to the CFCC Student Symposium

Submit your paper, poster, and/or special format sessions in PDF format via this submission form . Please pay close attention to submission requirements. Failure to meet requirements may result in immediate rejection. Resubmission of corrected proposals may only be considered, if slots are still available after reviewing submissions that comply with requirements.

(1). Individual Papers (Literature Review, Creative, or Research)

You may submit abstracts (or summaries) of individual papers to be considered in a regular paper session. These abstracts will be organized into sessions based on common themes by the program committee members. All paper submissions should include: (a) the title of the paper, (b) Author names, the course paper originated from and the full section number, contact information for each author, and (c) an abstract (approximately 300-500 words). If your paper is accepted, you are to prepare and submit a 10-minute maximum MS PowerPoint presentation to be given at a scheduled time on the day of the CFCC Student Symposium.

  • Discipline-specific citations are required (in-text and reference list).
  • The student poster presenter (author and creator) must be present at the assigned space during the designated time to discuss the work presented.
(2). Special Format Sessions (Open to all, including faculty and staff)

Are popular at research conferences in various academic disciplines. Many scholars look forward to this opportunity because the format allows for more open interaction between scholars interested in a specific area or topic. The purpose of the CFCC Student Symposium special format sessions is to facilitate discussions that enable students to explore international topics more deeply. We encourage special format submissions on various international topics across disciplines (e.g., roundtables, workshops, panel discussions, etc.). We will accept roundtables, workshops, panel discussions, or special format sessions on international topics. These proposals should be submitted as a complete or closed session, meaning all participants will focus on a single topic and must have agreed to participate before the organizer offers the proposal. Additionally, you must include full details for all included participants (see details in number 1 above).

(3). Poster Presentations

Posters have become increasingly popular at research conferences in various academic disciplines. Many student scholars look forward to this opportunity because the format allows for a more open interaction between researchers and participants. The purpose of the CFCC Student Symposium poster presentation sessions is to showcase research by students and enable students to develop valuable experience to prepare for future endeavors. We encourage poster submissions on a variety of topics to share exceptional student work across disciplines.

Specific Requirements for Poster Submissions

  • Poster displays will be limited to 24 x 36 inches. For a guide to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a poster this size, please visit https://www.lifewire.com/make-poster-in-powerpoint-4174840 Accepted submissions will be printed by CFCC on foam board of this size for display at the Student Symposium, please ensure you leave space on all four edges.
  • Be sure to include the abstract, title, author name, and any discipline specific headers (ex: introduction, background, methods, findings, results, conclusions,…).
  • Discipline-specific citations are required (in-text and reference list).

Poster Presentation Day Requirements

  • A poster board number assigned to the submission must be visible in the upper left-hand corner of the display to allow judges to identify posters for awards. Accepted submissions will have assigned numbers printed, so these should remain visible.
  • The student poster presenter (author and creator) must be present at the assigned space during the designated time to discuss the work presented.

Tips for Poster Preparation

  • Posters should spark a quick discussion; they are not intended for a long presentation. Please keep text to a minimum, emphasize images or graphics, and make sure every item (including each word) included in your poster is necessary to describe your project. A good goal to strive for is about 20% text, 40% graphics, and 40% space.
  • Ensure that your ideas flow logically and that sections are easy to follow in order.
  • Use charts and graphs to illustrate data (avoid large raw data tables).
  • Use high-resolution photographs (web images often will not work).
  • Do not use all capital letters.
  • Be consistent with line spacing, margins, borders, shading, and text (color, style, and thickness).
  • You are limited to 3 fonts and 3 colors maximum (images may exceed this).
  • Test the readability with your friends and family.
