Building a Healthier Future for New Hanover County
A Collaborative Initiative to
Address Healthcare Workforce Needs
The Partnership
A Unified Effort to Solve a Critical Challenge
Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), in collaboration with UNCW’s College of Health and Human Services, New Hanover County Schools (NHCS), and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce (WCC), has formed a strategic partnership to address the pressing healthcare workforce shortages in our region. This collaborative approach leverages each partner’s strengths, aiming to attract, educate, and retain a dedicated healthcare workforce within New Hanover County.
Our Process
Strategic Action for Sustainable Impact
Our journey began in Spring 2023 when key stakeholders across the community came together to tackle the nursing shortage. Through weekly meetings, we analyzed data, identified barriers, and began crafting a systems-based approach that addresses the recruitment, education, and retention of healthcare professionals. This approach ensures that we not only produce more healthcare workers but also retain them within our community.
