Two CFCC employees recognized at 2024 New Hanover County Equity Awards
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) proudly announces that employees Maria Rodriguez and Donterio Perkins were honored at the 2024 New Hanover County Equity Awards. The event, which took place on Friday, August 23, celebrated leaders who have made significant contributions to advancing equity and diversity within the community.
Maria, Program Director for the Community Spanish Interpreter Program, and Donterio, Coordinator of Diversity Success, were recognized as two of only eleven honorees at this year’s event. Their dedication to fostering an inclusive environment and promoting equity at CFCC has impacted the college and resonated throughout New Hanover County.
Maria has played a crucial role in creating programs that offer essential language support services to non-English-speaking residents. Her program equips individuals to become bilingual professionals, enabling them to provide communication assistance during interviews and in interactive workplace environments.
Through his work in the Nixon Leaders Center, Donterio has created initiatives that support underrepresented students. His efforts have included organizing guest speakers, workshops, mentoring programs, and community outreach to support these students’ educational and professional aspirations.
“Maria and Donterio reflect Cape Fear Community College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Jim Morton, President of CFCC. “Their recognition at the New Hanover County Equity Awards highlights their dedication and the positive impact they have on our community. We are proud of their accomplishments.”
