CFCC announces partnership with SELCAT to jump start careers of electrical lineworker graduates
Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the Southeastern Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training (SELCAT) program. This partnership will provide graduates of CFCC’s Electrical Lineworker program with a direct pathway into SELCAT’s prestigious apprenticeship program. CFCC is the only community college in North Carolina to have established this partnership with SELCAT, joining an exclusive group of eight other community colleges within SELCAT’s nine-state service area.
Under this new partnership, electrical lineworker graduates will receive 1,000 hours of credit toward their SELCAT apprenticeship. Moreover, they can bypass the traditional interview process and 14-day climbing school required to enter the program. This fast-track pathway represents a significant advantage for CFCC graduates as they enter the workforce, offering them a competitive edge and immediate access to a career with immense growth potential.
“SELCAT is pleased to be working with Cape Fear Community College as we believe their high standards for training will not only enhance the quality of the apprentices that we have but also help make them a valuable member of the company they go to work for in our industry,” said Luke Tyler, Executive Assistant Director/Training Director, SECLAT.
“We are thrilled to provide our Electrical Lineworker graduates with such a valuable opportunity,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “This partnership with SELCAT not only enhances the training we offer but also ensures that our students are well-prepared to enter a critical industry that keeps our communities connected and powered.”
SELCAT is affiliated with the Electrical Training Alliance (ETA) and is sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). With operations in nine states, including North Carolina, SECLAT is crucial in maintaining the strength and reliability of the region’s Outside Electrical Construction industry. The program uniquely provides standardized, full-certified, and up-to-date training at no cost to taxpayers while offering an earn-while-you-learn education model.
