CFCC Partners with Honey Head Films to Offer New Screenwriting Course

Wilmington, NC (January 19, 2026) – Cape Fear Community College is expanding creative opportunities for aspiring filmmakers and writers through a new partnership with local production house Honey Head Films. Beginning this spring, CFCC will offer an eight-week screenwriting course taught by acclaimed writer and director Erika Arlee.
The course focuses on developing compelling short and feature-length narrative scripts while introducing students to professional storytelling techniques used in the filmmaking industry. Participants will engage in guided writing exercises, peer-led review sessions, and table reads with professional actors, providing valuable insight into the pre-production process.
“Wilmington has a rich and longstanding history in film and television, and this course allows students to cultivate that passion right here in our community,” said Jim Morton, CFCC President. “By partnering with a local production company, we’re allowing aspiring writers to learn from industry professionals and grow their creative skills in an authentic, hands-on setting.”
“We are thrilled to be offering this course in collaboration with CFCC,” said Arlee. “Honey Head has a long-standing commitment to bolstering the next generation of cinematic storytellers. Creating access to education, which allows writers to explore their unique voices, is the first step.”
The inaugural cohort will run from March 16 to May 4, 2026, meeting every Monday from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Classes will be held at Honey Head Films’ production office, giving students an immersive, real-world learning environment within Wilmington’s film community. The cost of the course is $175.
