Benita Miller
Meet Benita Miller, Assistant Director of the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center. Since joining the college in August 2021, Benita has brought her passion for early childhood education and years of experience to support the children, families, and staff she works with daily. Inspired by her grandmother’s encouragement and lifelong love of working with children, Benita has built a remarkable career in early childhood development. Outside work, she loves traveling, beach days, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren! Get to know more about Benita in her Q&A!

What year did you start working at CFCC, and what brought you here?

I started working for CFCC on August 9, 2021. I was looking for more of a role working with the early education teaching staff and a 12-month position.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

The children. I love watching them grow and explore their learning environment.

When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?

When I’m not working, I like to travel, go to the beach, and spend time with my family and grandchildren.

Who had the most significant influence on your education or career path?

My grandmother. She always encouraged me to be who I wanted to be. She noticed that even from a young age, I enjoyed being around children.

What is something not many people know about you?

I have a twin sister that I adore. My youngest son also has twins. Being a nana of twins is amazing. We have a truly special bond.

Degrees, certificates, or professional organizations (if applicable)?

I worked for Head Start for 11 years before moving to Wilmington in 2005. While working, I obtained my AAS in Early Childhood Development with a certificate in special education, a Montessori Degree, and a Level 1 and 2 Administration Degree.
