What year did you start working at CFCC, and what brought you here?
I started working at Cape Fear Community College in August 2008. Having been here for almost 17 years, this institution feels like a second home.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Over the years, supporting students in the Learning Lab has been incredibly rewarding. Watching them work with our tutors and faculty and seeing their successes as they grasp challenging material has been a highlight of my career. I also truly enjoy working alongside the wonderful faculty and staff at CFCC, who are among the best.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work, I love watching movies, gaming, traveling, attending sporting events and concerts, and spending time with my daughter, girlfriend, and family. These activities help me recharge and bring balance to my life.
Who had the most significant influence on your education or career path?
My family and Dr. Sheila Tucker, a former instructor at East Carolina University, have profoundly influenced my journey in education. Education has been a cornerstone of my upbringing. My mother and grandmother were dedicated elementary and middle school teachers, and my grandfather served as a truant officer after his time in the Marines. Their commitment instilled in me a deep respect for learning. During my undergraduate studies at ECU, Dr. Tucker’s passion and enthusiasm for teaching further solidified my desire to contribute to education.
What is something not many people know about you?
You might not know a few things about me: I’m pursuing a master’s degree in higher education at UNCW, and I have only two semesters left before I graduate next December.
Additionally, I have a passion for cooking. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with recipes from cookbooks and the Food Network, adding my twist to create unique versions of dishes. Also, because I love to travel, my daughter and I have a Route 66 trip planned for the summer after she graduates in May 2026 from the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham.
Degrees, certificates, or professional organizations (if applicable)?
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from East Carolina University.
