His career began in marine biology and shifted to veterinary medicine, bringing extensive experience to CFCC. Learn more about his journey and commitment to animal health and education in this Q&A.
What year did you start working at CFCC, and what brought you here?
I started as adjunct faculty in 2017 and just changed to full-time faculty in January of this year. My former technician, April Lehmann, brought me into the program, and I have enjoyed teaching so much that I have made it my full-time gig.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Seeing the students improve their knowledge and skills is the most rewarding thing about my work.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy kayaking, woodworking, and caring for our farm’s animals. Time spent on the water or creating something is fulfilling to my soul.
Who had the most significant influence on your education/and or career path?
I was going in the direction of a marine biologist in college, but I realized how meaningful my relationship with animals was to me. A neighbor’s dog solidified that for me. That’s when I decided that animal health care was the field that I wanted to go into. As a veterinarian, I could provide the care necessary to maintain the quality of life of our animal companions. Now, I am improving the lives of pets and their owners by strengthening a vital part of the healthcare team.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Being taught how to evaluate my own expectations of others was the most helpful advice I’ve received. It helps strengthen personal and professional relationships if you learn how to manage your expectations.
What is something not many people know about you?
I started my college career focused on marine biology and changed direction to the veterinary field halfway through college. When I entered vet school, I was actually pursuing a career in aquatic animal medicine, but life had other plans for me. You just have to learn how to listen to where you are meant to be.
