Sea Devil Spotlight: Garrett Pridgen

Garrett Pridgen
Rewind a few years to when current CFCC student Garrett Pridgen was a senior in high school. While many of Garrett’s friends were getting ready to attend four-year universities, Garrett decided to take an alternate route and enroll at CFCC.

“I really didn’t know what I wanted to do out of high school, but I did know I could save money by getting my general education courses out of the way at CFCC while also giving myself time to figure out what I wanted to do. I wanted to take things slow and not have to rush or settle on something. To me, it was a no-brainer to start here.”

CFCC has been an incredible learning experience for Garrett. “The whole process has been seamless and simple thanks to the faculty and staff here. I am so grateful for my advisor who helped me figure out what steps I needed to take to get me on the right track.”

While at CFCC, Garrett gave himself time to figure out what he was passionate about. “I knew I wanted to help people and be in the healthcare field. CFCC gave me the time I needed to realize what I wanted.”

For students in high school, Garrett has some advice. “It’s okay to not know what you want to do right after high school – most students don’t. CFCC allows you time to figure out what you want to do while also saving you thousands. Come in with a very open mind as to what CFCC has to offer. Explore all of CFCC’s opportunities and resources available to you. Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to reach out to instructors and staff. They are here for you.”

Garrett will graduate from CFCC this spring with his Associate in Arts and has been accepted into UNCW’s Exercise Science program. Eventually, he plans to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. “CFCC has taken me from having no goals to having a long-term goal, and setting myself up for a great future ahead.”

With over 200 programs, CFCC has options for everyone. Whether you’re seeking an affordable path to a well-paying job, a college transfer degree, a rewarding career in health sciences, or just to take a few classes, you’re in the right place. If you aren’t sure where to start, consider reviewing our career resources, call one of our team members, or schedule a campus visit.
