What type of student are you?

New to CFCC

Welcome! We’re glad you’re here.

New students must be accepted to CFCC before they are eligible to register. Registration information will be mailed with your acceptance letter. Please review the Admission process for new students to make sure you have completed the necessary requirements for admission.

New students are required to view an online orientation orientation session . During the orientation, students will learn all about what they can expect at CFCC and how to connect with resources.

If you are transferring to CFCC from another school, please send your transcript as soon as possible. Late receipt of your transcripts could delay your registration for certain courses. Students transferring from another school should have all transcripts delivered to CFCC at least two weeks prior to any registration period.

Current CFCC Student

Already a CFCC student? Great! Here’s what you need to know.

Currently enrolled students register each semester for the upcoming semester during the early registration period. Students receive an email through their myCFCC email account with specific instructions regarding registration, including their priority date and time and their advisor’s name and location. Early registration for the Fall and Summer semesters occurs in April. Early registration for Spring occurs in October. Check the Academic Calendar for specific registration periods.

Registration is an online process through the student’s Self Service – Student Planning account. Tutorials are available showing How to Register . Students will receive a confirmation email once they have registered online. That email will contain important payment, refund, and attendance information.

New and returning students who are not currently enrolled in classes will register after current student priority registration ends.

Students may take up to 18 hours without special permission during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students must seek special permission from the Director of Academic Advising or the Dean of Student Support Services to carry an overload of semester hours. Overload requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.0 in completed courses.

Returning Student

Been here before? We’re so glad you’re back.

Students (including CFCC graduates) returning to CFCC who have not been enrolled for one or more academic years must submit a new admissions application. You may also be required to complete the Residency Determination Service Application. This application determines if you will pay in-state or out-of-state tuition and is mandated by the State of North Carolina via the Residency Determination Service Office. For further information, please see the Returning Students’ Admissions page .

If you had trouble your first time at CFCC, please read our Academic Forgiveness policy .

Guest or Visiting Student

Want to take a class at CFCC that will transfer back to your university? No problem!

Students who are 18 years of age or older or have a high school diploma or equivalent but do not wish to enter degree or diploma programs may enter CFCC as “special credit” students. Please review the Admissions process for Visiting Students to make sure you have completed the necessary requirements for admissions.

Special Credit students must meet all course prerequisites.

Registration for the Fall and Summer semesters occurs in April. Early registration for Spring occurs in October. Check the Academic Calendar for specific registration periods.

New Special Credit students are eligible to register online through Self Service. Registration information will be mailed with your acceptance letter. Please review the Admissions process to ensure you have completed the requirements for admissions.

Special Credit students may register online or in person in the Academic Advising Center in Union Station (Room 240). Check the Academic Calendar for specific advising and registration periods. Students will receive a confirmation email once they have registered online. The email will contain important payment, refund, and attendance information.

Transferring to CFCC from another college

Transferring Credit to CFCC? Here’s what you need to know.
  • Have you earned transferable credit at another college?
  • Did you take AP exams in high school and earn a (3) or higher on final score reports?
  • Did you take CLEP exams at another institution?
    • Students planning to attend CFCC are encouraged to submit OFFICIAL transcripts as part of the admission process. These are reviewed within 3-5 business days to determine if prior credit will transfer or if any courses may satisfy placement testing. CFCC awards transfer credit for courses successfully completed (C or better) at accepted accredited institutions.

      Here’s how it works:

      1. You send OFFICIAL college/university transcripts to CFCC’s Registrar’s Office – this can also include OFFICIAL AP, IB, or CLEP score reports.
      2. Transcripts are received and reviewed by Transcript Evaluators.
      3. You will receive a copy of the transcript evaluation for each college you’ve attended to your assigned CFCC email.

If you are transferring to CFCC from another school, please send your transcript as soon as possible. Late receipt of your transcripts could delay your registration for certain courses. Students transferring from another school should have all transcripts delivered to CFCC at least two weeks prior to any registration period.

Auditing a CFCC class

Want to audit a class? Here’s how.

Students who wish to audit courses must register for the audit by following the regular admissions and registration procedures and indicating in writing on an audit form which course(s) they are auditing. Read more about auditing courses at CFCC.

CFCC Employee Taking a Class

Work here. Learn here.

CFCC employees must complete the Admissions process and be admitted to CFCC prior to registering for any courses.

Employees should register through Self Service – Student Planning. Check the Academic Calendar for specific registration periods.

Employees are responsible for any charges beyond the tuition benefit given to CFCC employees. The tuition benefit must be approved by your supervisor. These charges are payable at the time of registration.

Waitlist Information

If the desired course section is full and a waitlist is available, a student may add themselves to the waitlist to await the possibility of a seat opening later. Some courses offer a waitlist when the course has reached the maximum capacity of enrolled students. A waitlist may also have a capacity limit and will not allow a student to the waitlist if it has also reached capacity. Students may only add themselves to one waitlist for any course at a time (i.e. cannot add waitlist to multiple sections of BIO-111). CFCC does not automatically register students from a waitlist. Students on a waitlist will be notified via CFCC email once a seat becomes available. It is the students’ responsibility to check their CFCC e-mail daily for the “permission to register” notification email and to register within the 24-hour timeframe. If assistance is needed, the student MUST contact the Registrar’s Office immediately upon receiving the email and before the expiration date and time to not lose the seat!

Schedule Changes (Add/Drop Period)

In some instances, it is necessary for students to make adjustments to their schedules. Students may make schedule changes via Student Planning through the Add/Drop period. Adjustments to drop one class and add another during this period must be completed in one transaction to avoid a refund penalty. Please visit one of our Academic Advising centers if you need assistance with schedule adjustments.
